NASHVILLE, TN (September 24, 2014) – Soles4Souls Inc., an international not-for-profit social enterprise that advances the fight against poverty through the distribution of shoes and clothing, has been awarded The Memorial Foundation Leadership Award.
The Leadership Award recognizes nonprofits that have risen above substantial fiscal problems through effective turnaround management. It is presented to an agency that has accomplished a significant transformation over time. It recognizes the organization’s success in tackling a seriously negative or damaging situation and enabling the organization to be better able to achieve its mission.
As the winner of this year’s award, Soles4Souls was presented with $10,000 at the Center for Nonprofit Management’s Salute to Excellence Awards Banquet on September 23, 2014.
“We are honored to be chosen for the Memorial Foundation Leadership Award,” said Buddy Teaster, Soles4Souls President and CEO. “Their recognition of the hard work the board and management team have done to get Soles4Souls back on track to help Wear Out Poverty, and be a more involved part of the Nashville community, is incredibly satisfying. But what it really means is that we’re better positioned than we have been in years to collect more shoes and clothes so we can help more people in the US and around the world. We’re definitely going to celebrate even while we remember how much more there is to do.”
Soles4Souls is a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty. The organization advances its anti-poverty mission by collecting new and used shoes and clothes from individuals, schools, faith-based institutions, civic organizations and corporate partners, then distributing those shoes and clothes both via direct donations to people in need and by provisioning qualified micro-enterprise programs designed to create jobs in poor and disadvantaged communities. Since it began, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 22 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Soles4Souls is committed to the highest standards of operating and governance, and holds a four-star rating with Charity Navigator.
