There is a special kind of experience that happens when you step out of the boardroom and into the community. This past February, 12 members of Sole Society – our dedicated circle of annual supporters and board directors – joined us for the annual Soles4Souls Supporter Global Experience in Honduras.
Over 4 days the concept of impact became a tangible, living reality.
The mission of Soles4Souls is vast, spanning global communities, but this trip was a reminder that at its heart, the mission is deeply personal. We visited two local schools, where our travelers met with and distributed new shoes to over 500 students.
The experience didn’t stop at shoe distribution, though. Along with visiting the schools, the group visited a thrift store established by our 4Opportunity partners, World Compass Foundation, and spent time with them and their employees, allowing them to see firsthand how a pair of shoes can be the beginning of a small business. To capture the essence of the week, we asked our travelers to describe their experience in just one word.
To capture the essence of the week, we asked our travelers to describe their experience in just one word. The results were a beautiful representation of the donor journey:
Fulfilled. Confidence. Humbling. Inspiring. Reassured. Wondrous. Appreciative. Clarity.
One donor noted that these spaces “bring humanity back into the mission.” When you see the face of the entrepreneur you are empowering or the smile of a child in their first pair of school shoes, the purpose feels deeper and more real than any metric could convey.
It wasn’t all work though! It was also about celebrating the beauty of the country in which we are proud to serve.
The group took in the beautiful landscapes of Honduras with a boat tour through Laguna de Los Micos that highlighted vibrancy and resilience of the Honduran community.
The Annual Supporter Global Experience is an invitation only trip exclusive to members of our Sole Society. It’s an opportunity to see the mission from the inside out and to witness how every donation and shoe connects to create a better life for those in need.
Everything comes full circle: the impact, the people, and the purpose. Our Sole Society members left Honduras more engaged and connected than ever and ready to continue the work.
