Stepping Into Our Purpose in Guatemala

Stepping Into Our Purpose In Guatemala

Every year, Soles4Souls holds a special tradition where members of our team are hand selected by their leaders to step away from their typical roles and immerse themselves in the heart of our mission. This year, our staff trip took us to the beautiful landscapes of Guatemala to see firsthand how a pair of shoes can change someone’s life.

It wasn’t just about the breathtaking scenery or sense of comradery that made the trip something special. It was about the heartfelt connections made between our team and the communities we served.

“Being able to serve hundreds of kids through a language barrier is a refreshing reminder of how we can still connect in the simplest ways.” – Gabriela

For many on the team, this trip turned abstract goals into reality. As Joshua said, “Something as simple as shoes can make a huge difference – I am proud to be making a difference at Soles4Souls”.

Our impact in Guatemala is not possible without the incredible local partners we work with. We had the pleasure of having dinner with Shannon and Ronald from DBO, hearing their story of opening a new store with Soles4Souls dedicated to supporting women.

“What an awesome way to experience a different culture!” — Art C.

These experiences taught us that our work is just one piece of a much larger puzzle.

As we headed back home, the opinion among the group was unanimous – we were returning with a renewed sense of perspective.

Josh shared that the trip made him feel “part of something BIGGER.”

Nancy noted how “travel teaches you empathy, adaptability, and perspective in a way nothing else can.”

Hearing their stories and seeing their entrepreneurial spirit fueled by our partnership was truly inspiring for the entire staff. Jason perhaps said it best- “Seeing the impact up close makes the work real in a way that’s hard to describe unless you experience it yourself.

In order to truly Travel with Purpose, we took the time to immerse ourselves in the local culture. From touring macadamia farms at Valhalla to learning the ancient art of jade extraction and traditional chocolate making at La Sanjuanera, we gained a deeper appreciation for the heritage of the people we serve.

We leave Guatemala inspired and more committed than ever to our mission. Because as José told our team before we left“Every one of you is making a difference in my country.”
